Jaipur: A gang has allegedly been using stolen number plates fitted on different vehicles to repeatedly flee filling stations across Jaipur after getting their fuel tanks filled, leaving attendants injured when they try to stop them. The gang is suspected to have struck more than a dozen times in four months, but the first FIR was registered only Wednesday at Bindayaka police station. The FIR was filed based on a complaint filed by an owner of a filling station on Sirsi Road. He reported that around 8.25am Wednesday, a man arrived in a WagonR and asked for a full tank. After the salesman filled the tank and demanded Rs 4,070, the driver sped away. The salesman injured his hand while trying to stop the car.The same number plate had appeared on different vehicles in earlier incidents. On Oct 23, another vehicle fled from a filling station on Sirsi Road around 5.11am after taking Rs 4,403 worth of fuel. Barely 20 minutes earlier, a black SUV bearing the same registration had allegedly escaped from a filling station in Vaishali Nagar after getting Rs 5,683 worth of diesel. Its driver dragged the salesman when he tried to stop the vehicle and pushed him onto the road before fleeing.Police records and complaints point to several other incidents reported at filling stations in Khora Bisal, VKI and Niwaru Road. In all cases, the vehicles allegedly used the same stolen registration number and escaped without paying.Police are now examining CCTV footage from the targeted outlets to identify the gang members and trace the vehicles. The investigation is under way.
