Noida: UP govt has planned to develop a ‘Singapore City’ in Sector 7 of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. The proposal was discussed at Thursday meeting in Lucknow between chief minister Yogi Adityanath and a 14-member delegation of Singaporean industrialists and investors. The delegation is interested in investing in key sectors such as logistics, semiconductors, data centres, green energy, urban planning and hospitality. The visit follows the chief minister’s trip to Singapore in Feb this year. It was aimed at strengthening investment ties between the state and the country.During the meeting, Chief Minister Adityanath proposed setting up a Singapore City near the airport and identified areas for cooperation. “Singapore’s technology and Uttar Pradesh’s potential will script a new chapter in global growth. Key areas of cooperation will include multimodal logistics and warehousing, high-tech manufacturing, including semiconductor fabrication and electronics, data centres, cloud services and artificial intelligence, and clean technologies such as solar energy, green hydrogen, waste management and water recycling,” he said. Five hundred acres will be allotted for the project.Highlighting the state’s growing electronics manufacturing ecosystem, the chief minister said the state accounted for around 55% of India’s total mobile phone production and 60% of electronic component manufacturing.Singapore Business Federation chairperson Mark Lee and other members of the delegation had visited the industrial areas in Noida and Greater Noida earlier this week. They appreciated the state’s infrastructure, ease of doing business and investor-friendly policies. The delegation also praised projects such as Film City, Toy Park, Apparel Park, Medical Devices Park and the proposed semiconductor cluster in Greater Noida and the YEIDA region, describing them as being on a par with international standards.Referring to Singapore’s development model, Adityanath said the vision of its founding leader, the late Lee Kuan Yew, demonstrated that a country’s global standing depended more on its vision, efficiency and optimal utilisation of resources than on its geographical size. He also said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past 12 years, India transformed from being described as a ‘fragile economy’ into one of the world’s leading and robust economies.During the meeting, the chief minister also handed over an eligibility certificate to Greater Nashik Infracon Pvt Ltd, associated with Singapore-based Universal Success Enterprises Group, for 50 acres of land in YEIDA’s Sector 8D. The company plans to set up an integrated manufacturing facility, Universal Packaging Hub, with an investment of Rs 775 crore. The project is expected to generate 1,880 direct jobs.
