Youth clings to moving Thar as Gurgaon traffic cops try to impound it

Gurgaon: A youth clung to the driver’s door of a moving Thar SUV as traffic police tried to impound it at Sohna Chowk Monday evening, in a high-voltage confrontation that has been captured on video. The incident began when traffic police stopped the SUV for a routine check after noticing that its windows were tinted and it had no rear number plate.According to police, the occupants became agitated when the officers asked them to produce the vehicle’s documents and allegedly refused to show the papers or hand over the keys, prompting police to impound the vehicle.A traffic cop then took over in the driver’s seat and the youth stepped inside the vehicle, but soon another cop asked him to step outside. After this tussle, the cop began to move the SUV when the driver blocked its way. He later clung onto its door before letting go after a short distance. The youth, however, claimed that the confrontation began after a policeman abused him. He said, “The rear number plate had come off because of waterlogging and I had placed it at the front.”Police did not take action immediately due to a tense law-and-order situation at the spot. A cop said, “The vehicle’s owner had been identified using its chassis and other identification details.”
