Gurgaon: Residents in several new sectors along Southern Peripheral Road faced water supply disruption after two major pipelines carrying water from Chandu Budhera water treatment plant were damaged. In Sector 62, a leakage was detected in a 1,200mm-diameter pipeline around 1pm on Thursday. The damage forced GMDA to partially halt supply from the plant, affecting areas between sectors 58 and 63, including several residential sectors that depend on the boosting station in Sector 51, which gets water from the plant.According to GMDA officials, a team was deployed immediately to replace the damaged section. “The damaged section of the pipeline has been replaced and water supply was restored by 7pm on Friday,” a GMDA official said.Residents said the lack of water had disrupted household routines, with supply failing during scheduled morning hours and remaining unavailable into the evening.“There was no supply in the morning and households in both Sushant Lok phases 2 and 3 were affected. On Thursday, residents struggled with power cuts, and today we are facing water supply issues. We live in Millennium City, yet residents are struggling to get even basic necessities like electricity and water. These are essential services, and it is frustrating that people have to deal with one crisis after another,” said Pawan Kumar Yadav, RWA president of Sushant Lok 2 and 3.Separately, a 1,000mm-diameter pipeline carrying water from the plant was damaged near the Basai flyover, where construction work for an upcoming metro station is under way. The pipeline was damaged on Wednesday evening, but repair was taken up only on Thursday. The repair took around six hours, and supply was restored at approximately 10pm on Thursday, officials said.
