Gurgaon: A construction dust-laden truck rammed into a Maruti Eeco and climbed onto it on Delhi-Alwar road in Nuh’s Firozpur Jhirka late on Saturday, crushing the car under its weight and killing three occupants. Police and local residents battled for nearly three hours to pull the four men out of the mangled vehicle, eventually bringing in an excavator to free the car.The men, all from Gurgaon, were returning from a relative’s engagement ceremony when the truck, coming from Alwar side, hit their car near Housing Board colony around 10.30pm. The impact pushed the Eeco’s front portion under the heavy vehicle, leaving all four occupants trapped inside.“A large crowd gathered at the spot as local residents and police personnel tried to rescue the occupants. Initial efforts to pull out the car proved unsuccessful, prompting us to call in an excavator,” a police officer said. The car was eventually pulled free, and the four men were extricated and rushed to a govt hospital in Mandikheda. Doctors declared three dead, while the fourth was admitted in a critical condition. The three who died were Anil (28) and Vivek (30), both residents of Sohna, and Ravi (30), who was from Gurgaon. Abhishek (25), also from Sohna, suffered grievous injuries. Ravi and Anil were brothers-in-law. The men had attended the engagement of the son of Anil’s paternal aunt.A senior police officer said the bodies were sent to Al Afia Hospital in Mandikhera for autopsy. Police seized the truck, but its driver fled after the collision.Police said they were scanning CCTV footage from nearby cameras to look for the driver and were investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. “Further action will be taken based on the findings,” an officer said.
