Alwar CJP functionary alleges police detained him, forced to sign undertaking

Alwar: A CJP functionary from Alwar district has alleged that police picked him up late Thursday night, took him nearly 100 km to an outpost near the Haryana border and forced him to sign an undertaking that he would not attend a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. However, police denied detaining or assaulting him, saying they had counselled him in view of prohibitory orders in Delhi.Deepak Balian, a resident of Mankheda village, told TOI that police took him from his home around 10.30pm and dropped him back at about 4am Friday, but his mobile phone and slippers had not been returned. He alleged that officers threatened him and his family with false cases and allowed him to speak to his ailing mother on the phone for only 30 seconds.“If such actions continue, the next Jantar Mantar will be Kathumar in Alwar,” Balian said, warning that CJP would organise a major protest and pursue legal action.CJP functionaries Ashutosh Ranka and Abhijeet Dipke raised the matter on social media. The organisation’s Rajasthan media in-charge, Aditya Yadav, reached Balian’s house Friday and questioned the police presence there.Alwar Police issued a statement, saying that a team from Kathumar police station had visited Balian late Thursday to counsel him because Section 163 of the BNSS was in force in Delhi. According to police, Balian became angry when his father offered the officers tea.Police said Balian was counselled, bound under Section 172(2) of the BNSS, and sent home after a medical examination. They denied taking him into custody or assaulting him, termed contrary reports rumours and said surveillance was continuing.
