Six of family get life term in Rohtas murder case

Sasaram: A court in Rohtas on Friday sentenced six members of a family to life imprisonment for the murder of a man over a land dispute at Sidhauli village under Dehri-Dalmianagar police station area in 2002. Additional district judge V Ravindra Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on each convict, with an additional sentence in case of default.The convicts were identified as Virendra Singh, Upendra Singh, Raju Singh alias Narendra Singh, Bablu Singh, Ganesh Singh and Surendra Singh, all residents of Purnamasi Bigha in Dalmianagar. The court found them guilty under Sections 147, 149 and 302 of the IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act.Additional public prosecutor Sudarshan Singh said the incident occurred around 8am on July 1, 2002, when complainant Kameshwar Singh was fencing a plot west of his house along with his brother Nageshwar Singh and son Akhilesh Singh to prevent cattle from entering it.According to the prosecution, the six accused reached the spot and an altercation broke out over the fencing. They allegedly abused the family and pelted them with bricks and stones.During the altercation, Raju Singh allegedly brought a double-barrel gun from his house and shot Nageshwar Singh in the abdomen and thigh. Nageshwar died on the spot, while the accused fled.An FIR was subsequently registered at Dehri-Dalmianagar police station on Kameshwar Singh’s complaint. The prosecution examined 11 witnesses. After considering the evidence, the court convicted all six and awarded them life imprisonment.
