CPI(ML) seeks CEC’s removal, halt to voter roll revision

TNNLucknow: Demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and an immediate halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, CPI(ML) Liberation held a protest march from Parivartan Chowk to the district magistrate’s office on Saturday.After the march, a party delegation submitted a six-point memorandum addressed to President of India through the city magistrate, seeking protection of voting rights and the release of activists detained during protests.The party alleged that its Lucknow district secretary, Ramesh Singh Sengar, had been under house arrest for over 24 hours. It also claimed that AISA Uttar Pradesh president Manish Kumar and AISA Allahabad secretary Bhanu had been detained by the UP Special Task Force in Meerut.Addressing the gathering, AISA Lucknow president Shantam Nidhi said the issue was not limited to one chief election commissioner but concerned public confidence in the electoral process.
