Gurgaon: Students in govt-aided colleges across Haryana, including Gurgaon, may soon get access to a wider range of academic resources, with the higher education department stepping up efforts to connect institutions to National Digital Library of India (NDLI).The department has directed colleges that have yet to register with the platform to complete their institutional membership process at the earliest. The initiative aims to supplement conventional college libraries with digital access to study material, research papers and examination resources.NDLI offers a common platform for students to access undergraduate and postgraduate study material, research publications, question papers and resources for entrance and competitive examinations. These include JEE, NEET, CUET, GATE, UGC-NET, SSC and banking exams, among others. For students in Gurgaon, many of whom prepare for competitive examinations alongside their degree courses, the platform could provide access to academic and exam-related material without having to search across multiple websites. The digital library is not intended to replace physical libraries but to expand the range of resources available to students. It could also benefit postgraduate students and researchers seeking subject-specific material. As part of the registration process, colleges are required to establish an NDLI Club to facilitate student participation. Through these clubs, institutions can organise expert lectures, webinars, quizzes, debates and examination-preparation activities.Once students are enrolled and the prescribed activities are conducted, institutions can receive an NDLI registration certificate. Participating students will also be eligible for certificates recognising their involvement in the programmes. The department’s push to expedite registrations is expected to bring more govt-aided colleges into the digital academic network, giving students access to learning and research resources beyond their prescribed textbooks and existing library collections.
