Lucknow: BSP president Mayawati has convened a state-level meeting of the party’s UP unit in Lucknow on Nov 5. The office-bearers of the various committees of the party in UP will be present in the meeting to discuss the preparations for the Assembly elections.Mayawati held the last state-level meeting of the UP unit on Aug 31. The instructions given to the office-bearers in that meeting will be reviewed in Nov 5 meeting.At present, BSP is in the process of appointing in-charges for Assembly constituencies in UP. As has been the party norm, most of these in-charges are also the candidates from the constituencies that they represent.The candidate, or in-charge, selection, therefore, will be a prime discussion in the meeting.In the state-level meetings, Mayawati also seeks direct feedback from party members about various developments in their region, be it any local political impact, organisational hazard or schemes of the political opponents.Sources said Mayawati “guides and instructs” her rank and file on how to navigate the challenges in their constituency and ways to step up the voter outreach.The upcoming meeting would also have a lot of such two-way communication between the party’s top leadership and others with respect to upcoming elections.Since Aug 31 meeting, Mayawati has held two national-level meetings of the party in Lucknow, on Sept 3 and Sept 23, in which she made organisational changes at the national level involving her nephews Akash and Ishan Anand.At present, the brothers hold national-level posts in the party and this would be the first dedicated meeting of the BSP’s UP unit after their elevation in the party.Though it’s unclear whether the brothers would be present in Nov 5 meeting, Mayawati may have some added responsibilities for them in UP in days to come.
