The centres will offer treatment for common illnesses, pregnancy and child care, immunisation and family planning, among others

Gurgaon: A private healthcare company has been given the job of setting up and managing 30 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Gurgaon, in a significant shift in the way primary healthcare centres are run, even as the health department will continue to monitor services and public health programmes.ASR Hospitals (India) Pvt Ltd, based in Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, has been awarded the work by the Haryana Medical Services Corporation Ltd (HMSCL). The project is valued at Rs 26.2 crore, and the centres will be run for two years from the date of the agreement. The company will arrange the premises, hire staff, provide equipment and supplies, and manage the centres daily. Each centre will have a medical officer, a staff nurse, a male multipurpose health worker and cleaning staff. The work order also provides for computerised registration, CCTV, oxygen support and day-care beds. The centres, meant to work as neighbourhood health facilities, will offer treatment for common illnesses, pregnancy and child care, immunisation, family planning, screening and treatment for diabetes and hypertension, communicable disease care, eye, ENT and dental services, elderly care and basic mental healthcare. Gurgaon civil surgeon will monitor their functioning and help finalise procedures for staffing, medicines, equipment, services and reporting. The govt will also ensure vaccine supplies and coordinate community health work with ASHA workers and other frontline health staff. The contract allows penalties for shortcomings such as staff shortages, non-availability of medicines or tests, and failure to provide promised services. Payment is linked to the services provided, with health authorities having a role in checking and certifying the work.Health minister Aarti Singh Rao said the govt wanted healthcare to reach people close to their homes rather than remain concentrated in big hospitals. “Our priority is not just to open health centres, but to ensure that they remain functional, accountable and provide quality services.
