Patna: A govt school teacher in Supaul district was suspended after a video showing him allegedly sleeping in a classroom during school hours went viral on social media, leaving students unattended. The incident occurred at Upgraded Middle School Jiwachhpur Boys in Ward No. 3 of Hardi East panchayat under Supaul Sadar block, where special teacher Ajit Kumar was posted.The education department ordered an inquiry after the video surfaced on social media. Once the footage was verified, Ajit Kumar was suspended and departmental proceedings were initiated against him on Oct 30.“The inquiry found that the teacher was wearing jeans and sleeping with his feet on a chair during school hours. The department viewed the conduct as a serious dereliction of duty. It was against the interests of students and adversely affected the academic environment in the school,” Supaul DEO Sangram Singh said.The teacher has also been accused of violating the Bihar Govt Servants’ Conduct Rules, 1976, and the code of conduct prescribed for special teachers. During the suspension period, Ajit Kumar’s headquarters have been fixed at the office of the block education officer in Marauna. A separate departmental chargesheet will be issued against him.
