LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has directed King George’s Medical University (KGMU) to initiate action against faculty members and employees named in a Special Task Force (STF) inquiry report that details allegations of sexual exploitation, harassment, pressure for religious conversion and suppression of complaints across multiple departments of the university.Acting on the state government’s communication, Vice-Chancellor Prof Sonia Nityanand has called an emergency meeting of the university’s Executive Council (EC), on Nov 6, the highest statutory decision-making body at KGMU, to consider disciplinary proceedings under the provisions of the KGMU Act, 2002, and the university’s statutes.A letter from the medical education department has directed the university to take appropriate steps against those named in the report and submit an action-taken report to the state government. The STF inquiry, submitted after an extensive probe, spans allegations involving nursing staff, resident doctors and faculty members in Gandhi Ward, Microbiology, Pathology and Radiology departments. The report cites complaints by at least 11 individuals and recommends departmental action against those found prima facie involved. At the centre of the report are two criminal cases registered in December 2025.The first case relates to a complaint by a junior resident doctor from the Pathology Department against a fellow resident doctor. The FIR, registered at Chowk police station on December 23, 2025, alleges prolonged physical and mental harassment, pressure to convert religion and marry, and repeated assaults after refusal. The STF report states that the complainant was driven into severe distress and later lodged a police complaint after recovering from a medical emergency. The accused was arrested on January 9, 2026, and the report notes that KGMU’s Internal Complaints Committee also found him guilty of the allegations examined by it.The second FIR was lodged at Kaiserbagh police station on December 29, 2025, on the complaint of a nursing staff member against a resident doctor. The complainant alleged sexual exploitation on the promise of marriage and subsequent refusal to marry. The STF report also mentions allegations by another nursing employee who reportedly complained of harassment and pressure to convert.Beyond the two criminal cases, the allegations primarily concern the Nursing Services, Microbiology, Pathology, Medicine, and Radiology departments. According to the STF, complaints were raised by at least 11 individuals, including nursing personnel and resident doctors, across these departments. In the Nursing Services section, allegations involve three accused staff members/doctors and four women employees. The microbiology department section refers to a complaint by a contractual computer operator against a department employee. The pathology department features the largest number of allegations, naming one resident doctor as the central figure in complaints involving multiple women doctors. The document also refers to a police case registered at Chowk police station and notes that the doctor was arrested on January 9, 2026. It further states that the university’s Internal Complaints Committee found him guilty of the allegations levelled against him.
