Lucknow: Tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries in Uttar Pradesh will reopen to tourists on Nov 1 this year, earlier than the usual mid-November start, in a move aimed at extending the ecotourism season.PCCF (wildlife) Anuradha Vemuri confirmed the decision. The sites had closed on June 30, later than in previous years, as the state gradually lengthens the tourism window to boost revenue and support local livelihoods linked to wildlife tourism.Traditionally, the protected areas opened on Nov 15 and shut on June 15. Under the revised approach, reopening will take place from Nov 1, while the closure is being pushed towards the end of June, depending on the monsoon outlook. Officials said monsoon forecasts will continue to guide the final shutdown date.In 2024, the season began on Nov 6, while in 2025 it started on Nov 1. This year will follow the Nov 1 schedule. Last year, sites stayed open until June 25; this year, until June 30.Uttar Pradesh has four tiger reserves—Dudhwa, Pilibhit, Amangarh and Ranipur—besides 26 wildlife sanctuaries, including 12 bird sanctuaries.
