VARANASI: A 24-year-old hospital manager was arrested in Chandauli on Saturday for allegedly performing surgery on a patient in the absence of a doctor, resulting in her death.An FIR under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was recently registered against him following a postmortem and inquiry.Chandravali Bind of Lakhaipur village under Dheena police station filed a complaint stating that his 27-year-old married daughter, Suman, was admitted to Indra Hospital in Mahraiya, Dhanapur, on Aug 18 due to a uterus-related complication.According to Bind, on Aug 19, hospital manager Indrajeet Prajapati, who uses the prefix “Dr” before his name, performed surgery on Suman. Bind alleged that during the procedure, Prajapati cut the wrong vein and damaged her kidney, following which Suman died later that night.Taking note of the complaint, Chandauli chief medical officer ordered an inquiry. Dhanapur SHO Surya Prakash Mishra said the postmortem and inquiry reports confirmed the crime allegedly committed by Prajapati. Following this, an FIR under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against him and further investigation was initiated.Mishra said police received information from an informer about Prajapati’s presence at the hospital and arrested him from Indra Hospital, Mahraiya.During initial interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted that he was the hospital manager and generally arranged for patients to be treated by calling doctors. He told police that on the day of the incident, the doctor did not come, so he performed the surgery himself, following which the patient died.
