Yogi flags ‘missing Hindu voters’ from electoral rolls, asks BJP cadre to launch booth-level drive

Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday called upon BJP workers to launch a booth-level campaign to ensure that all eligible voters, particularly those whose names are missing from electoral rolls, are enrolled during the ongoing drive to add missing names, turning voter-list verification into a key organisational task ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.Addressing the BJP state working committee meeting in Lucknow, Yogi said an analysis of electoral rolls had revealed that a large number of eligible voters were absent from the Assembly voter list despite being entitled to vote. Referring to figures cited during his address, he said about 1.27 crore Hindus were missing from electoral rolls and their names needed to be added through a systematic campaign. The CM asked party workers to use information available on the Kamal Saathi App to identify eligible voters left out of the rolls after the SIR early this year and help them complete the enrolment process. He directed MPs, MLAs, district in-charges and Assembly segment coordinators to regularly review the exercise and ensure that no eligible voter remains excluded.Yogi said the SIR exercise had thrown up several anomalies. According to him, many people whose names exist in panchayat electoral rolls are absent from Assembly voter lists. He also claimed that over 55 lakh beneficiaries of government welfare schemes were not enrolled as voters. In addition, around 4.5 lakh youths in the 18-19 age group are eligible to be added to the rolls, he said.Calling the voter-list exercise an important organisational responsibility, Yogi urged BJP workers to take the campaign to every booth and maintain direct contact with eligible voters. He said ensuring inclusion of all eligible citizens in the electoral process was essential for a healthy democracy. The voter-roll issue figured prominently in Yogi’s broader call for organisational mobilisation ahead of the next Assembly polls. Alongside voter enrolment, he exhorted workers to aggressively publicise government achievements at the booth level, counter opposition narratives through grassroots outreach and social media, and strengthen the party’s connect with beneficiaries of welfare schemes. The chief minister also asked BJP workers to build a positive narrative around the government’s performance and ensure every active booth shares local development stories on social media. He said the party’s vast booth-level network should be used not only for political communication but also for reaching out to people during festivals and public events. “Of the state’s 1.77 lakh booths, 1.63 lakh are currently active, and workers at all these booths should share positive stories of development and welfare initiatives from their villages and localities on social media every day. If all 1.63 lakh booths simultaneously amplify positive news and grassroots development stories, it would have a significant impact on public discourse,” he said.Yogi’s emphasis on voter-list revision comes amid a wider political debate over electoral rolls, with the BJP seeking to project the exercise as one aimed at ensuring that all eligible voters, particularly those inadvertently left out of the rolls, are included before the 2027 electoral contest.
