Lucknow: A court in Rae Bareli has sentenced Sarvesh Kumar alias Pintu to life imprisonment for the murder of Ravindra Pratap Singh of Konchi village in the Mohanganj area of Amethi district, and imposed a fine of ₹30,000. Additional District and Sessions Judge-II, Rae Bareli, also awarded him seven years of rigorous imprisonment for destroying evidence, holding him guilty on both counts.The court said the life term was for murder, while the seven-year term was for destruction of evidence. It also ordered that if the fine is not paid, the convict will have to undergo an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment.According to police, the case began with an FIR lodged by the victim’s wife, Sarita Singh, a resident of Konchi village. She approached Mohanganj police station on Oct 12, 2023, alleging that Sarvesh Kumar had called her husband out of their house and then attacked him with a knife. Ravindra Pratap Singh died from the injuries, the complaint stated.The investigation was carried out by then station house officer Dhirendra Kumar Yadav. After completing the probe, police filed a chargesheet in the court on Oct 21, 2023, naming Sarvesh Kumar as the accused.During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence to establish Sarvesh Kumar’s role in the killing and the alleged attempt to destroy evidence. After considering the material on record, the court convicted him and pronounced the sentence, bringing the proceedings to a close nearly three years after the case was registered.
