On the occasion of Dussehra and Vijayadashami, Jaipur’s erstwhile royal Sawai Padmanabh Singh performed traditional puja as per customs at City Palace. During the puja, he first worshipped the weapons in Chandra Mahal.
As per the traditions, ceremonial reverence paid to horses, elephants, and royal carriages in the palace stables
The celebrations began with the ceremonial worship of swords, shields and other weapons. This ritual honours the instruments of defence and protection, continuing a Vijayadashami tradition of the royal household. Preserving the centuries-old customs of the Kachhwaha rulers of Amer and Jaipur, the ceremony honours ancestral weaponry, royal horses, and the sacred Khejri tree—celebrating the triumph of dharma, valour, and enduring heritage. This was followed by the Horse puja, Gaj puja and ‘Paalki’ puja at Sarvatobhadra Chowk. On this occasion, former ‘thakurs’ and ‘thikanedaars’ of Jaipur were present, who met Sawai Padmanabh Singh and gave him best wishes for the Dussehra festival.
